Multi-Employer

Today’s citation may look trivial, but tomorrow’s Repeat Citation could lead to big fines and future Willful citations. OSHA’s multi-employer citation policy and practice is one of the most misunderstood and misused of OSHA’s compliance tools.

Are you a Construction Manager (CM) or General Contractor (GC) cited by OSHA for violations committed by your subcontractors? You are not responsible to supervise the employees of your subcontractors. You are not a “guarantor” that at no time will an employee of one of your subs violate an OSHA regulation.

Like many GCs and CMs, if you make a reasonable effort to maintain a safe worksite, you may not be responsible for the safety of others under OSHA’s multi-employer worksite policy.
