Jerry Solomon’s 10 Steps to Help Yourself Avoid OSHA Citations
1. Have a real safety and health program - Written, Distributed, Understood, Enforced, Updated
2. Be sure that all subs receive it, acknowledge it, and agree to abide by it
3. Have all subs contractually obligated to provide a safe work place and to report problems that they can’t fix to you.
4. Know what competent persons are required for the work to be done and be sure they are present.
5. Anticipate Safety and Health problems that might arise.
6. Utilize a progressive system for discipline for safety infractions.
7. Arrange for regular safety inspections of the worksite.
8. Insist on abatement where violations are found.
9. Utilize a charge-back system to enable you to fix problems that subs won’t take care of, e.g. housekeeping
10. Document what you do.
